We were able to switch the match to Coleshill and the team of Paul Barrett, Graham Barrett, Malcolm Jones and Des Green were victorious by 3½ to ½. The last meeting of the year will be next Wednesday 21st December on which occasion there will be a club fun competition with some mince pies on offer!

Four evenly matched games took place and the team of Graham Barrett, Richard Bailey, Colin Bissell and Des Green returned home defeated by 2½ to 1½. The match was played in a very good spirit and there was little to choose between the players of both sides, this is exactly why the division was created.

The next match for the team is not until Wednesday 28th September when we entertain Division 6 Kynoch in the first round of the Dudley Townshend Trophy, a competition for clubs in Divisions 4 to 6 in the Birmingham League. Unlike the league matches, this is a six a side competition.

On Thursday 25th August 2016 the Coleshill team of Paul Barrett, Malcolm Jones, Trevor Gazee and Des Green participated in a Rapid Play tournament organised by Tamworth Chess Club. The tournament was well organised and played in a good spirit by all participants and rounded off with an excellent buffet. Despite finishing third of the three teams, all of the Coleshill players performed exceptionally well against much higher graded opponents from Ashby and Tamworth.

On Wednesday 17th August we entertained Westminster Chess Club in a return friendly. The match was played over five boards and the team of Paul Barrett, Graham Barrett, Colin Bissell, Malcolm Jones and Thomas White lost by 31/2 to 11/2 against higher graded opponents. The evening was however considered to be a great success and there are plans for  annual pre-season matches between the two clubs.

The simultaneous display given by Mike Wilboar on the 10th August attracted eight club members. Mike played with white pieces against all opponents and utilised a variety of openings.
